Thank you for stopping by the West Carrollton Historical Society website. West Carrollton is located below the city of Dayton in southwestern Ohio. The city is surrounded by Miami Township, within Montgomery County. This area once included the villages known as Alexandersville, Danville and Dwyer Station. The first Euro-American settlers arrived here in 1796.
The West Carrollton Historical Society exists to discover, collect and preserve history for our community. This nonprofit organization began in the early 1930's as the Research Club and has grown continually: in museum collection, in depth of recorded history and in membership.
The society is housed in the Historical House Museum located at 323 E. Central Avenue, West Carrollton, Ohio. This house, of Victorian design, was built around 1899. It has been rehabbed and is furnished in period furnishings. The walls display a variety of historical photos of the West Carrollton area. The second floor contains an office, research library and exhibit room. There are also memorial walkways on the lawn that contain the names of many area citizens.
The society has regular public meetings where interesting historical programs are presented and social time is offered. We also attend other local historical programs, go on field trips and participate in community events. The society's Historical House Museum has monthly Open Houses. Special tours of the Historical House Museum can be arranged by appointment. If you are interested in joining the society, please check out our "Participate" section of this website.
We enjoy working together for the preservation of materials and memories from past eras and sharing in the nostalgia. Our interests include structures, vehicles, furnishings, clothing, artifacts, businesses, organizations, events, family genealogy and histories, photos, books, documents, films and recordings of a historical nature.
One of our best resources is passed-down family history; photos, stories, documents, memorabilia and artifacts. If you have such cherished items and wish to share them with us, please go to the "Contact" tab in this website and follow the instructions there. You can either donate such materials to the Society for display and preservation, or loan them to us for careful documentation and recording as historical artifacts, after which, they will be returned to you.
Thanks again for your interest in the West Carrollton Historical Society! From this home page you can begin your journey into West Carrollton's past by using the tabs at the top of this page.
